My mother was visiting recently and during our mother-daughter shopping time I discovered something interesting. Almost all of the merchants I made a purchase at asked me if I’d like to get on the email list. That is very intelligent.
But, just HOW where they did this made a positive change in my answer. Identify more about the internet by navigating to our stately portfolio. I said NO to almost all of them since they simply didn’t allow it to be enticing for me personally. After all, who DESIRES more junk mail? So if you merely ask me if I’d like to be on your email list, the answer will often be NO.
But one store specifically got me. To start with, it had been a designer clothing store I loved. Secondly, they did not ask me if I wanted to be on the email list. They asked me to be a ‘VIP Client.’
Say what ‘VIP’ in my experience and my ears improve. I-t of course represents ‘extremely important person.’ And generally it implies a-level of reputation and benefit. Suddenly I DESIRED to be on that mailing list, specially when the salesman explained to me it included specific benefits, such as early notice on a personal buying service, new arrivals, and private trunk shows. And you know what? I would have even paid-to participate that – to be seen as a VIP.
You see, people WISH to be a part of some thing special like e-zine promotion. The example above was free. But do not underestimate just how much your customers or clients will PAY to accomplish this, often.
Example: A pal of mine recently discussed he pays $15,000.00 a-year to fit in with the President’s Club of the local playhouse, although he and his wife can attend each show there just for $150.00. Why would a faithful attendee desire to spend 100 times more? I share this never to impress you, but to impress upon you that in YOUR industry (yes, *yours*) there’s a percentage of folks who will gladly spend MORE – much more – for a higher degree of service or treatment. Remember, you’re not trying to please EVERYONE, just-the select few who can afford that degree of service.
So now, take a moment or two and con-sider tips on how to start your own personal ‘country club’ for your clients and customers. Whether it’s a VIP amount of service or a private customer group that meets a few times a year.
To get your wheels turning, imagine this… if you can get 10 individuals to commit to some form of system that’s only $10,000.00 a year, that’s an additional $100,000.00 this year for YOU!.
